Throughout the grant period, you may want to capture videos or screenshots from within the headset and share it with others. It can be great for promotional resources, or for helping us identify any issues you might be having. The following instructions will walk you through capturing content on the headset, and saving it to your computer through SideQuest.

Note: If you are not using a headset as part of the VR Grant, your headset will not be affiliated with a Care Reality Meta account, and you can follow the instructions within the headset to share media to your personal Meta account.

Capturing Content

There are two ways to capture content while using the Quest headset: directly through the Camera app, or using the quick menu when already in an application.

If you are taking a photo, a short countdown will start, before playing a shutter sound and capturing the photo.

If you are recording a video, active recording will be denoted by showing a red recording light in the top right of your view. While recording, the ‘Record Video’ buttons across the UI will change to a ‘Stop Recording’ button. Press this to stop recording.

Accessing and saving content through SideQuest

The following steps will detail how to access captured videos and screenshots using SideQuest.

Note: You will need to install SideQuest to your computer from this link. Care Reality is not affiliated with SideQuest and do not distribute or maintain their software.

Step 1: Connect your Quest to your computer and launch SideQuest

When connected, you should see a green circle in the top left of the SideQuest window showing that your device is properly connected without issue. If the circle is not green, you will need to consult SideQuest’s documentation.

In the top right, as highlighted in the image, is a folder icon. Selecting this brings up the root directory of your Quest.

Step 2: Navigating to the Oculus/ directory

Once in the root directory, you should identify a folder named “Oculus”, as highlighted below. Select this folder.

In the Oculus folder, you should see the following folders. Screenshots that you have captured are stored in the “Screenshots” folder, and videos that you have recorded are in the “VideoShots” folder.

Step 3: Saving media to your computer

Within either the “Screenshots” or “VideoShots” folder, you will see all of your recorded media. The filenames can be a bit hard to parse, but generally they are structured as:

com.company-name.product-name-date-time

To save them your computer, select the floppy disk / save icon next to the media that you want to save. SideQuest will pop up a window asking you where you want to save it, but it should default to your Desktop, though you can change the location if you’d like.
