System Gesture / Oculus Button

The Oculus Button (or System Gesture) is a core interaction across Quest devices. It is denoted by the icon on the right hand controller, or by the that appears between your thumb and forefinger when using hand tracking.

Pressing the Oculus button will always provide the same context-dependent functionality: accessing the Oculus system menu. When not in an application, this allows you to access your Profile, Settings, App Library, and more. When in an application, you will be presented with a menu that allows you to quit the app, record a video, cast your view to a supported device, and more.

The below video shows you how to press the Oculus button when using hand tracking.

Recentering Your View

Recentering your view is a simple process that realigns the VR content with your physical orientation. This can be necessary as you move around in VR and find that you need to re-orient yourself within your play area.

By recentering your view, the system adjusts the virtual world to match your current position and orientation, ensuring a comfortable and immersive experience throughout your VR session.

On a Quest device, recentering your view is done by holding the Oculus button / system gesture.

The video below shows you how to recenter your view. When the camera ‘jumps’, the user is sat completely still; the VR content is moving to align with them.

Exiting An App

Exiting applications is controlled through the system menu. Press the Oculus button / system gesture to bring up the context menu where you can exit the application you are currently using.
