Meta Quest - Cast/Stream Device Experience
You can cast/stream what users are experiencing in VR either with a wired cable connection or wirelessly over your Wi-Fi or Mobile Network using Meta’s own casting solution or a VR community-trusted third-party solution.
Device Casting - Meta
We recommend following Meta’s own guidance for device casting, view their tutorials here.
Device Casting - SideQuest
If for any reason the Meta device streaming is problematic, you can use the following instructions to use a free desktop application as an alternative.
You will need:
A computer with either a USB-C port or a USB 3.0 (blue) port & HDMI port
You must have permission to install software on the computer
A 3m USB-C to USB-A/USB-C cable, depending what USB ports your computer has (we user the Anker brand on Amazon).
~15 minutes for setup and a test stream
Here are the recommended instructions on streaming:
Go to the SideQuest website on your computer & download & install the advanced installer.
Once installed, connect your headset to your computer via either a USB-C port or USB 3.0 (blue) port.
When connected & with the headset powered on, you will get a prompt in the headset to allow the connection. If you can't see this, check the notifications (bell button) in the Quest navigation bar.
If successful, you should see the Quest connected and in green when you have SideQuest open on your computer:
The TV icon at the top of the SideQuest window will let you cast from the headset using a cable, use the "Start Stream" button and it will open the stream in a new window.
Connect the computer to the projector/board via HDMIÂ if not done so already.
Move/set the streaming window to be displayed on the projector/board.
This solution will require a constant wired connection between the Quest & computer.
There is an option for wireless casting using SideQuest ("Wi-Fi" button). This is an experimental feature, both the computer and headset must be on the same Wi-Fi network if you try this.
